The building, subject to intervention, is located in the historic center of Caldonazzo and presumably dates back to the 18th century. Built after the adjacent buildings, to complete the urban block, during the 20th century it underwent multiple transformations, from an accommodation facility to a home, without ever having its originale features modified. The project involved the renovation of the building and its elevations, in order to transform the attic space into a new housing unit, rethinking the existing one below. Taking advantage of the considerable height of the attic space, the interior space has been modelled on different levels, alternating double-height environments with more intimate spaces, offering different point of views and atmospheres. The central element is the staircase, designed to connect the existing entrance level with the living area and the sleeping area, at the same time characterizing the interior space with its sculptural presence. The load-bearing structures, as well as the materials, are conceived as further elements characterizing the intervention: the steel beam painted blue like the ceramic floor, the secondary frame in natural larch wood like the floors of the sleeping area. In a different way, the intervention on the existing house involved the transformation of its original layout. revisiting and rearranging it in order to optimize natural light and to increase the spaciousness and the quality of the internal spaces Since it was not possible to work on different levels, like on the attic floor, we decided to relate the internal spaces by opening new passages in the load-bearing walls. allowing physical and visual connections between the rooms and offering interesting and unusual perspectives. Even here, the staircase plays a pivotal role, being shaped as a semicircular climbing element in exposed reinforced concrete to connect the ground and the first flooring and as a sculptural block in larch wood in continuity with the floor of the bedroom. The materials and detail solutions are the same already used in the other unit, to harmonize the two interventions, with the exception of the ceramic floors, which are green. If, internally, the transformations were quite radical, the intervention on the facades aimed to preserve the simple character of the building, removing every non-essential element to enhance the existing, using traditional materials in a contemporary way. Thus, the original openings have been highlighted using raised masonry frames, the texture of the roof has been left visible, the wooden door marking the entrance has been revisited without decorations, the blinds have been removed and their color maintained for the painting of the facades.
L’edificio oggetto di intervento è situato nel centro storico di Caldonazzo e risale presumibilmente al XVIII secolo. Costruito in epoca successiva ai fabbricati adiacenti, a completamento della cortina edilizia, nel corso del XX secolo ha subito molteplici trasformazioni, da struttura ricettiva ad abitazione, senza tuttavia vederne modificati i tratti originari. Il progetto ha previsto il risanamento del fabbricato e la sua sopraelevazione per trasformare lo spazio sottotetto in una nuova unità abitativa e ripensare quella esistente sottostante. Potendo contare su un’altezza considerevole dello spazio sottotetto si è lavorato su livelli differenti, alternando ambienti a doppia altezza a spazi più raccolti e intimi, offrendo differenti visuali e caratteri. Elemento centrale diviene la scala, pensata per raccordare la quota d’ingresso esistente con la zona giorno e la zona notte e al contempo caratterizzare lo spazio con la sua presenza scultorea. Le strutture portanti, così come i materiali, si aggiungono come ulteriori elementi caratterizzanti l’intervento: la trave in acciaio verniciata di colore blu come i pavimenti ceramici, l’orditura secondaria in legno di larice naturale come i pavimenti della zona notte. Differentemente, l’intervento sull’abitazione esistente ha previsto di riprenderne l’assetto originario rivisitandolo e strutturandolo in modo da garantire luminosità e conferire ampiezza e carattere agli interni. Non potendo lavorare su livelli differenti come al piano sottotetto, si è cercato di mettere in relazione gli spazi mediante l’apertura di nuovi passaggi nelle murature portanti, consentendo di collegare fisicamente e visivamente gli ambienti, offrendone scorci interessanti e inusuali. La scala riveste però di nuovo un ruolo centrale, qui risolta come elemento rampante semicircolare in cemento armato faccia a vista per collegare piano terra e primo, come blocco scultoreo in legno di larice in continuità con il pavimento della stanza da letto. I materiali e le soluzioni di dettaglio sono quelli già utilizzati nell’altra unità, così da armonizzare i due interventi, ad eccezione dei pavimenti ceramici qui scelti di colore verde. Se internamente le trasformazioni sono state a modo loro radicali, l’intervento sulle facciate ha voluto preservare il carattere semplice della costruzione, rimuovendo ogni elemento non essenziale per valorizzare l’esistente, utilizzando materiali tradizionali in chiave contemporanea. Così le forometrie originarie sono state evidenziate mediante cornici in rilievo realizzate in muratura, la trama della copertura lasciata a vista, il portone ligneo che marca l’ingresso rivisitato senza specchiature, gli oscuranti rimossi ed il loro colore riproposto per la tinteggiatura della facciata.
