The design program consist of 14 new social housing units in the village of Sterzing. The volumetric program was split into two buildings and a common public space was generated in between by shifting the first one towards south. This open court is configured as a communal pivotal space for the new complex, a space protected from traffic where children can play and tenants can entertain themselves for various community activities. Through a path that runs alongside the building on it west side, the space of the courtyard has been linked to the external areas of the existing social housing complex, where the inhabitants will also share a green area dedicated to vegetable gardens. In this way, the tenants of the new complex are connected with those of the old apartments, with the aim of promoting a sense of community through the use of spaces. From an architectural point of view, the two buildings evoke the shapes and design of the facades of the historic buildings of Sterzing, although with a more contemporary character. All apartments are distributed on one floor and have a living area facing towards south, while the bedrooms are facing north. The balconies are inserted within the volumes of the buildings in order to shade them, generating a sort of extra room for the apartment, an open-air outdoor room.

Il progetto prevede la realizzazione di 14 nuovi alloggi di edilizia sociale a Vipiteno. Il programma volumetrico è stato scomposto in due edifici e scartando il primo verso sud si è generato uno spazio pubblico comune di accesso. Questa corte si configura come il cuore sociale del nuovo complesso, uno spazio riparato dal traffico dove i bambini possono giocare e gli inquilini intrattenersi per diverse attività comunitarie. Attraverso un percorso che corre affianco dell’edificio più ad ovest si è messo in relazione lo spazio della corte con le aree esterne del complesso di edilizia sociale già esistente, con il quale i nuovi volumi condivideranno anche una zona verde dedicata agli orti. In questo modo si mettono in relazione gli inquilini del nuovo complesso con quelli dei vecchi alloggi, con l’intento di favorire attraverso l’architettura e gli spazi un senso di comunità. Da un punto di vista architettonico i due edifici evocano nelle forme e nel disegno delle facciate le costruzioni storiche di Vipiteno, sebbene abbiano un aspetto contemporaneo. Tutti gli appartamenti si sviluppano su un unico piano e presentano la zona giorno rivolta a sud mentre le camere sono esposte a nord. Le terrazze sono realizzate all’interno dei volumi degli edifici in modo che siano protette, come fossero una stanza in più dell’appartamento, seppure una stanza all’aperto.
