The design proposal for the new urban center of Laives is characterized by the attempt of enhancing the public space with the construction of a new large square in continuity with that of the Town Hall. The aim is to reduce the volume of the new intervention to a single 11-meter-high building, together with a small one-story service building, to contain construction costs and to expand the public space of the square with the aim of fully enhancing the context in which it fits. In this way it is possible to open the view of the monumental façade of the church of Sant’Antonio Abate and San Nicolò. The project therefore consists of a main building opposed to that of the Town Hall and of a secondary volume that defines and contains the space of the square. All the new public functions have been distributed around the square in order to transform it into a lively and frequented place during the different hours of the day in the various seasons. All the façades along the perimeter of the building area are mostly blind or characterized by small circular openings. The façades overlooking the square are instead completely glazed. This choice makes it possible to guarantee natural light to all public spaces, making internal activities immediately perceptible from the square. The intervention opens up the public space to the community, both during day through the transparency of the windows and at night through the evening lighting of the exterior spaces. The square has a simple design, in order to allow maximum flexibility of use and the best exposure even during the winter season. The design proposal is completed by the interventions around the church building: the new churchyard along via Pietralba becomes a tree-lined space that connects the new square with the large park that will rise in place of the old cemetery, integrating a place naturally predisposed to calm and contemplation.
L’intervento per il nuovo nucleo centrale di Laives si caratterizza per la scelta di valorizzare lo spazio pubblico con la realizzazione di una nuova grande piazza in continuità con quella del Municipio. Il progetto prevede di ridurre il nuovo intervento ad un solo edificio alto 11 metri. assieme ad un piccolo edificio di servizio alto un piano, per contenere i costi di costruzione e per ampliare lo spazio pubblico della piazza con l’obiettivo di valorizzare appieno il contesto in cui si colloca. In questo modo è possibile lasciare aperta la vista della facciata monumentale della chiesa di Sant’Antonio Abate e San Nicolò. Il progetto si compone quindi di un edificio principale contrapposto a quello del municipio e di un volume secondario che definisce lo spazio della piazza. Tutte le nuove funzioni pubbliche sono state distribuite attorno alla piazza in modo da trasformarla in un luogo vivo e frequentato durante le diverse ore del giorno nelle varie stagioni. Le facciate lungo il perimetro dell’area edificabile sono per lo più cieche o caratterizzate da piccole aperture circolari. I fronti che si affacciano sulla piazza sono invece completamente vetrati. Questa scelta consente di garantire maggiore luminosità agli spazi pubblici, ma soprattutto immediatamente percepibili le attività interne dalla piazza. L’intervento si apre in questo modo alla comunità, sia di giorno attraverso la trasparenza delle vetrate, sia di notte attraverso l’illuminazione serale degli spazi interni. La piazza ha un disegno semplice, per consentire la massima flessibilità di utilizzo e la migliore esposizione anche durante la stagione invernale. Il contesto è completato dagli interventi attorno al fabbricato della chiesa: il nuovo sagrato lungo via Pietralba diviene uno spazio alberato che raccorda la nuova piazza con il grande parco che sorgerà al posto del vecchio cimitero, integrando con alberature e prato un luogo naturalmente predisposto alla calma e alla contemplazione.
