The proposal intends to subvert the current fragmented interiors of the Regional Museum of Natural Science in Torino, implementing a solution based on a unified and coherent design. The most urgent issues related to the museum spaces and to the urban location are: improving accessibility, establishing clear and linear connections, refining visual perception and characterizing the space. Thus, we have decided to insert two new steel and glass volumes within the two courtyards, to host the new functions such as the bookshop and the cafeteria and to improve the internal circulation. A new wall unit, which flanks the corridor as a reinterpretation of the internal furniture of the 18th century pharmacy, is conceived as one of the key features of the new museum for its visibility and usability. Light totems point out the various entrances to the museum, suggesting the possibility to enter into the courtyards, even outside the opening hours of the museum, whose visual identity is emphasized by the new lighting system. 

La proposta intende sovvertire l’attuale logica frammentaria a favore di un intervento che si basa su una visione unitaria e coerente del progetto. I temi che più di altri emergono dallo spazio museale e dal suo contesto urbano sono: il bisogno di accessi, spazi e collegamenti in cui prevalgano linearità concettuale, immediatezza percettiva e caratterizzazione spaziale. Così ha preso forma la proposta di costruire nei cortili del museo due ampliamenti in vetro e acciaio zincato che possano ospitare le due maggiori funzioni richieste: il bookshop e la caffetteria, dando nuovo ordine ai flussi ed agli snodi. La grande parete attrezzata dei corridoi, rileggendo l’”involucro storico” degli arredi settecenteschi della Farmacia, diviene attraverso la sua visibilità e usabilità uno dei fulcri caratteristici del museo.
I totem luminosi che segnano i diversi accessi alla struttura, suggeriscono la possibilità dell’uso delle corti e dei nuovi ampliamenti anche nelle ore di chiusura del museo, la cui grande identità architettonica resta comunque riconoscibile ed unitaria.
